4 Modern and Chic Fall Decor Style Tips

Who says fall decor can’t be chic? Here we’re sharing four of our favorite fall updates that are completely contemporary.

The fall time ushers in cozy knit sweaters, holidays spent with family and friends, and plenty of changing leaves to inspire our interiors for the season. But just because you want to reflect the time of year in your decor doesn’t mean your home can’t still be modern, chic, and sophisticated. Here, we’re sharing our favorite ways to style your space for the last few months of the year without crossing over into the realm of gaudy. Our tips will transform your space in a snap.

Focus on color palette

One of the easiest ways to reflect the fall time season in your home is through a well-chosen color palette. Introduce orange, red, or yellow hues through throw blankets and by changing out the pillows on your sofa or bed. You’ll need to add in extra textiles during this season anyway as the weather turns colder, so why not use the opportunity to express your love for the season. The key to achieving a look that’s chic and not kitschy is to choose simple patterns like stripes or solid textiles and as a general rule avoid any decor with words on it. This will keep your space looking modern and elegant, but still perfectly dressed up for the season.

Add in nature-grown elements

The most obvious garden-made elements to add to your porch are pumpkins and gourds, but you don’t have to stop there. Think about filling a vase or glass vessel with miniature white pumpkins inside for a stunning countertop display. Dried bouquets or grasses, especially ones that include red, orange, or yellow blooms are the perfect autumn addition to your dining table and set the scene for all the entertaining that this season calls for. Prairie flowers, pampas grass, willow branches, and bunny tails are just a few of our seasonal favorites. No matter what your favorite floral arrangement includes, this is a simple and inexpensive way to update your space.

Layers, layers, layers

Sometimes all it takes to get your space ready for autumn is making the place look and feel more cozy. The simplest way to do this is by layering in different types of tones and textures throughout every room in your home to get ready for colder weather. Think worn, reclaimed wood alongside finished oak, vintage leathers that have developed an aged patina and burnished metals, and plenty of textiles. A few of our favorites are woven upholstery with boucle pillows, corduroy, and wool that invites relaxed lounging under the blankets.

Get crafty

If you're a modern purist, you might not be crazy about the idea of filling your home with orange pumpkins. White pumpkins are the natural alternative, but if you have some spray paint and are willing to do a quick DIY, you can make your pumpkin-scape look even more chic. Mix white pumpkins with a few you’ve spray painted a matte black color for an ultra chic centerpiece to top your table, mantle, or any other space in your home that’s in need of some festive decor. You can also use this technique to elevate the look of gourds, branches, and other organic elements.
